Our routine this year for picking up the boys from school has been very hectic. They both get out at different times and their schools are just far enough apart that one has to stand around and wait for a few minutes while the other one is being picked up. It was so much easier when they were both at Mable Barron but Colby loves Sierra so much that I wouldn't want him to be anywhere else this year.
So on Mondays, I pick up both the boys and take them home. Ryan takes (most) Saturdays off and Lucas takes Mondays off, so Ryan has to stick around at the store that day. Mondays around here are early release days, the students get out one hour earlier that day so the teachers can have meetings, plan their schedules, etc. This is in lieu of taking a whole day off for Teacher Prep. Days. The rest of the week is crazy with the pickup schedule, so I won't bore you with that.
This last Monday rolls around and it's my day to get the boys. Taylor gets out at 1:30 and Colby gets out at 1:50. Naturally I pick up Taylor first and then head on over to get Colby. Taylor and I are bee-boppin' along talking about our day when we round the corner to Colby's school and he's standing on the corner. He throws his hands in the air like, "where the heck have you been!", while my mind is confused and trying to figure out what day it is and what time I was supposed to get Colby. Colby gets in the car and says, "Mom, where were you? I have been worried that you forgot to pick me up". I said, "Colby don't you get out at 1:50 on Mondays?". He replies, "No, 1:35". I said. "I could swear that it was 1:50", and Taylor chimes in and says, "Yeah, on Mondays I get out at 1:30 and Colby you get out at 1:50". As soon as Taylor said that, I could see Colby in my rear view mirror and could see the little lightbulb go off over his heard. He said, "Crap, I skipped my last class! Mom can you drive me to the school?" So I hurry to the school, by this time it's 1:42 and he runs across the campus with his backpack bouncing on his back. Taylor rolls down the window and yells, "Run, Forest!".
We have had a lot of fun teasing Colby about this little incident, Taylor especially. He's always so scheduled and knows exactly where he needs to be next. I was worried that he might be upset when he came back to the car, but he said that his teacher told him that it was no big deal, another student had done the same thing last week, and she understood that they were still trying to adjust to their Monday schedule (because it's a whacky schedule at the middle school on Mondays).
I think next Monday I'll stick some sort of embarrassing note in his lunch box to remind him that he gets out at 1:50. Either that or ask the principal to announce it over the PA system.

Leave it to Beaver! That is hilarious!
I don't even know what to write. I can barely see the screen. I am laughing so hard. Although to make Colbs feel better, I totally still have dreams that I didn't do my homework, or I forgot to get dressed or some horrible "still in school" dream. I still can't believe it. What kills me the most is run Forrest Run :)
'Run Forrest' was definitely my favorite part of this post. Poor Colby. Early release days are confusing. I left Dane at kinder pick up and more than once he was the lone kid sitting there wondering where I was.
Can the schools make it anymore confusing for the kids and parents?! Poor Colbs...thank goodness for an understanding teacher! Your boys crack me up!!! I don't know how you handle everything!!!!!! miss ya and love ya more!!
-tell Colby that I had my embarrassing moments when I went to school and it is too embarrassing to put it on the blog. It is hillarious. Cara, we just love the blogs and always get a good laugh. Keep it up!
Poor Forest! Too funny, Seester! How did yesterday go? I take it you all remembered! Life of a working Mom....it's hard enough to keep things straight when you're home but add a job on top of that! I know your pain! Love you!
